Greetings from the Reno-Tahoe Open. I cannot explain with words how good it feels to be playing in the west right now. No doubt it’s hot but the heat is dry and doesn’t leave you feeling drained and tired at the end of a round. I really appreciate the opportunity to play in this climate.
I began the tournament with a -4 first round on Thursday. As for my game, I feel good about where I am but know that there is a lot more that I’m capable of. I’m in the right frame of mind. Shooting -4 on this course is an accomplishment but yet I’m not satisfied. I know that I can play better. I’m very thankful that I can view my game realistically and with great clarity. The areas in which I need to improve are as plain as the nose on my face.
As soon as I finish this blog I’ll head to the training facility for some therapy on my elbow. The soreness has held me back but I feel as if we are making some progress each day I attend physical therapy. The pain is nothing to cringe about but the constant nagging ache is enough to make a difference on the course.
After the Reno-Tahoe Open I’m taking a much-needed vacation with my family. I’m really looking forward to some alone time with the kids and my wife. I cannot describe how much support they give me while on the TOUR or what their support means to me while I’m playing golf. I’m sure my fans who travel for their job understand the situation.
During my down time, I’m going to have the chance to tour a number of the Land Resource communities with CEO, Mike Flaskey. I’m really looking forward to experiencing the view of Lake Lure from the 2006 HGTV Dream Home at Grey Rock in North Carolina and breathing in the salt air from the 2004 HGTV Dream Home at Cumberland Harbour in St. Marys, Georgia. Spending some quality time with my primary sponsor is very important to me. Without their confidence in my playing abilities who knows what my future in golf would have been. I’m grateful for Land Resource’s support.
My next PGA stop will be in Greensboro, North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship at Forest Oaks Country Club, August 16 – 19. I look forward to updating you on my experience and will try to answer some of your mailbag questions between now and then.
Thanks for your support; it means the world to me and my family.
